How One Woman’s Stroke of Insight is a Gift to All of Us

The word Insight appearing behind torn brown paper.

In the summer of 2008, a friend introduced me to the TED Talk presented by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Dr. Taylor’s eighteen-minute talk was a lecture that not only inspired me then, but five years later has just as strong of an ability to create goosebumps (and inspiration) now as it did then.

Dr. Taylor was a scientist who, for years, researched the brain and all of its capabilities. Yet all of her years of study and research would not prepare her for the stroke she experienced in the left hemisphere of her brain in 1996. In her lecture, Dr. Taylor explains how she got to have a front-seat experience to her stroke as it was happening and the epiphanies it lead her to . . . that there truly was, and is, a power greater than all of us behind the scenes. Her lecture bridges science and spirituality in a profoundly moving way.
